The Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington has become a proven stallion-making race since earning Group 1 status in 2006.
Past winners such as Star Witness, Zoustar, Brazen Beau and Switzerland highlight its prestige, while Chris Waller has trained six of them.
This year, Waller will chase a seventh win when Beiwacht takes on the straight 1200m challenge on Saturday.
The Golden Rose winner had his first look down the Flemington straight in a jump-out last week, finishing third.
“I think it’s really important,” Waller said. “Most of our winners have done it once or twice and it certainly makes you feel better.”
Waller believes Beiwacht’s strength over 1400m will be an asset. “He’s a big strong horse, he’s settled in well, so he’s got what it takes.”
Victory could see Beiwacht target international straight-track races at Dubai or Ascot, with Adam Hyeronimus to retain the ride.
