Accredited out to break through in Festival Stakes

Consistent gelding Accredited will get his chance to finally land a deserved Stakes win at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Joe Pride-trained six-year-old lines up in the $250,000 Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

He heads into the race off two strong seconds, including a brave three-quarters-of-a-length defeat behind stablemate Coal Crusher in the $1 million The Hunter.

“Coal Crusher is a hard horse to beat at Newcastle and he did a really good job, he never gave up,” Pride said.

“He will be thereabouts and the 1500 metres will suit him.

He will start in the market as he always does. He is an honest, consistent horse and he is never far away.”

A son of All Too Hard, Accredited has won seven of his 21 starts and earned more than $700,000.

His Hunter run followed another narrow second in the Choisir Handicap on Melbourne Cup Day.

He also ended last preparation with a close defeat to Robusto in the Winter Challenge over the same course and distance.

Accredited is Pride’s lone Festival Stakes runner, a race that has drawn 31 nominations including Robusto, The Kosciuszko winner Clear Thinking, Group 2 Shannon Stakes winner Waterford, rising talent Yorkshire and Queensland Oaks winner You Wahng.
