Arctic Glamour out to prove her Hot Danish win was no surprise

Gerald Ryan insists Arctic Glamour’s upset first-up victory was no fluke, though he concedes a wide draw adds complexity to her bid for another strong showing in the Festival Stakes at Rosehill.

The mare jumped at $41 when she claimed the Hot Danish Stakes (1400m) earlier this month, her first run since two below-par efforts during the Brisbane winter.

Ryan believes those failures inflated her odds, arguing her dislike for Eagle Farm wasn’t factored in.

“I told anyone who asked me she’d win. She was over the odds,” Ryan said.

“Her two runs in Queensland, she just would not stretch out at Eagle Farm… Kerrin (McEvoy) came back in both times and said, ‘her run isn’t as bad as what it looks’.”

Arctic Glamour owns a win over multiple Group 1 star Joliestar and has placed at Group 2 level behind Olentia and Schwarz.

Her Hot Danish success was her first in two years, with wet tracks and misfortune hindering her strike rate despite earning more than $730,000.

“She’s had a lot of genuine excuses,” Ryan said.

Ryan says she has worked strongly again ahead of Saturday, but barrier 19 will force thoughtful tactics as she pushes toward The Ingham (1600m).

Stablemate Brosnan contests the Vale John Jeffs Handicap (1800m), meeting Luskaire three kilos better after a narrow last-start defeat.

“He’s consistent and honest… He won’t be far away.”
