Australian Turf Club to allow members on course

For the first time in three months, Australian Turf Club members will be allowed on course at a Sydney metropolitan race meeting.

The ATC has announced its members will be permitted to attend Saturday’s Winter Cup program at Rosehill, provided they pre-register and pre-book seating in line with government protocols.

It comes a week after owners were allowed back at the races to watch their horses compete.

Racing has been held behind closed doors since Coolmore Classic day at Rosehill on March 14 with only essential workers permitted.

ATC chief executive Jamie Barkley said welcoming back members was a first step towards the return of crowds.

“While it is not quite the same experience members may be used to as we strictly adhere to the NSW government public health order, it will give them a race day experience that can’t be matched at home or on TV,” Barkley said.

Owners with runners at Rosehill will again be allowed on course provided they pre-register online, with all members and owners who do so permitted to bring one guest.

Those attending will be have their temperatures taken by thermal imaging cameras.
