A year after Stefi Magnetica impressed with a fourth-place finish in the Light Fingers Stakes, trainer Bjorn Baker is hoping to discover another rising star in the same race.
Dance To The Boom will step into Group company for the first time on Saturday, aiming to extend her unbeaten streak to four.
After wins at Kembla Grange in August and Canterbury in December, the three-year-old filly triumphed in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m), earning a chance at the early Sydney carnival.
Baker is eager to see how she measures up in the Light Fingers Stakes (1200m), with eyes on bigger goals, including the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m).
“We’d love to get her up to 1400 metres for the Surround. If she can run a decent race on Saturday, we will go to the Surround with a touch of confidence,” Baker said.
“She’s a very good filly and perhaps still a little bit under-rated.”
Dance To The Boom will face a challenge from an awkward gate in 15, but Baker is confident in Kerrin McEvoy’s ability after a promising trial.
Baker will also be represented in the Triscay Stakes (1200m) by Bonita Queen and Spring Lee. He’s optimistic about Bonita Queen’s chances, noting significant weight relief, while Spring Lee is expected to be fitter after two races back.
