Gavin Bedggood will field a powerful team as he chases his first hometown victory in Saturday’s Listed Cranbourne Cup (1600m), with four stable runners accepted — though not all are certain to start.
Emergency runners Pondalowie and Scheelite have drawn ideally in gates one and two, while Casino Seventeen and St Lawrence have landed wide in barriers 16 and 18, prompting Bedggood to consider Sunday’s $200,000 Kilmore Cup instead.
“He wants to get a soft run… drawing 18 he probably has to go a long way back,” Bedggood said of Casino Seventeen. “The Kilmore Cup is an option.”
Jennilala drew best in gate five and should push forward after failing to handle heavy ground at Flemington.
“Her form previously had been pretty solid… she’s effective on dry ground,” Bedggood said.
Charterhouse, the 2022 Cup winner, has barrier 13.
“There looks to be decent speed… so it might not be that bad,” Bedggood said.
Presser was saved for Kilmore, with Bedggood noting: “Small fish are sweet sometimes.”
