Yeomans grateful for Meteorite chance with Jenni The Fox

Trainer Lucy Yeomans says she is thrilled to have Jenni The Fox representing Cape Schanck Racing in Saturday’s $1 million The Meteorite (1200m) at Cranbourne.

The mare carries the familiar Tony Ottobre colours, with Yeomans acknowledging the difficulty in finding a suitable horse for the slot.

“Tony Ottobre has the slot in The Meteorite and wanted one of his horses to take that place and he picked Fox and I think she will run a race,” Yeomans said.

Jenni The Fox has been kept fresh since transferring to Yeomans’ stable mid-preparation.

“She’s deep into her prep, rock-hard fit… she will have to pull out a career best,” Yeomans said.

A consistent performer across various grade levels, the mare has just one win — a Cranbourne maiden — but regularly finishes close up.

“She’s not been straight-forward to freshen-up… I’ve just given her a couple of gallops, kept it short and sharp,” Yeomans said.

While a longshot, Yeomans believes a fast tempo could bring her into the race late.

“Even having a runner is a fantastic opportunity… she will run well and be competitive in a $1 million race,” she said.
