RACE 1

2-1-3-5

Only a small field to kick start the afternoon and I am confident us punters can start well by backing 2 CAMPAIGN. This gelding from the Chris Waller yard returned for his second preparation and got the job done in good fashion at Kembla over 1300m. The step to 1550m today looks right up his alley and I see him getting the perfect tag on the top one and proving too strong late. The sting out of the surface won’t bother him as he by Snitzel and his progeny seem to love it. Pickelhaube looks the main danger coming off a win at Yarra Valley in Victoria. He will likely lead here which in small fields can be a big advantage. Jolly Honour is coming off a win at his second race start and Cool Dude Ausbred is coming back to take on easier opposition after being well beaten at Randwick on New Years Day.

RACE 2

1-8-6-4

ABSOLUTE returns here off a four month break in which he was gelded and if it has had the desired effect he will take some holding out here. His previous form was solid around some very handy horses like Gold Standard and Paret and with two trials under his belt in readiness for today he should be ready to fire. Shumookh has been trialling since September 2016 and finally steps out today with a very good rap on her. Waterhouse/Bott have added the blinkers for her debut run and if she finds the top she will give a big sight. The Man is first up for 11 months and trialled twice to be ready to go. Ombudsman has race fitness on his side being third up here and does turn up here off a solid effort at Randwick when beaten less than a length.

RACE 3

5-2-1-4

ONSLAUGHT gets the nod as this isn’t much depth here and from barrier one I expect Tye Angland to dictate how this race is run. His previous form has been solid and his two trials in preparation for his first up run have been ok. Mon Pere is the big threat especially if he found anywhere near his best form. He won four of his first five starts before losing his way. He resumed on Boxing Day after 402 days off the scene and nothing went right but in saying that he didn’t fire. With that run under his belt I am expecting a sharp improvement here. All Summer Long will carry the grandstand but is a tough campaigner and with now two runs under his belt he will keep the others honest.

RACE 4

1-2-3-4

I am backing both ALL IN THE REFLEXS and Duchess Pedrille believing one way or another one of the two gets the cash. All In The Reflexs is first up having good fresh form including a win and from a good gate I expect she will sit around midfield or just a touch worse and hopefully run over them. The little drawback is that she hasn’t won under 1400m but in this grade she can overcome that and she has looked very good in trial short course barrier trials. Duchess Pedrille is racing in terrific form and that bought about a good win last start here four weeks ago. With the claim for Brock Ryan she only goes up a half kilo and should lob in a perfect spot perhaps tagging Bonita and at some stage will look the winner.

RACE 5

7-8-2-5

I have tossed and turned with this race thinking there is three winning chances and which way to go and I finally settled on the one I think gets the best run and will get every chance being REGINE. Trainer John O’Shea put the blinkers on last start and he travelled like the winner and got the job in good fashion when winning at Randwick. From gate two he will likely camp on the back of Happy Go Plucky and if he can pinch a break on straightening he will take plenty of running down. Domed will be one horse coming after him and will be strong as an ox at the end of the race. First up she was terrific at Randwick over 1400m when hitting the line hard after seeing clear room and she is one from one second up. The third of the winning hopes in my mind is Feelin The Love from the Kris Lees stable who comes through the same race as Domed and meets her 1/2 kilo better but the big advantage today is drawing barrier one which will allow her a soft run leaving some dash for late.

RACE 6

2-7-9-6

PEDWAY looks the one to beat following two very runs this preparation. First up he sat on the pace and was strong through the line when winning at Gosford then second up after beginning well he didn’t want to gas himself with a lot of speed underneath him he sat in behind and kept finding the line. Today in easier grade and from barrier one he should get the perfect run I imagine on the back go Identic and if he gets room on straightening he will take plenty of beating. Cordoned was never ever in the race last start at Gosford when a mile back yet found the line powerfully over the flying 1000m. The extra 100m here will suit him so expect him to be coming hard in the run home. Kanga’s Eye finally broke the maiden last start and did so in fine fashion when prepared back at Scone by John Ramsey. The filly now returns to Anthony and Edward Cummings and with no weight on her back she should not be underestimated. Geneteau has only won one from 15 starts yet run five seconds and her conviction late in races is starting to be questioned. She has the ability so don’t let me talk you out of backing her

RACE 7

12-2-3-7

I have done the flip late here and have settled on SAN PABLO who will lead and roll along and with only 52kg on his back is sure to take plenty of running down. He has been getting fitter at each run and with four under his belt now he will be rock hard fit and the others are sure to know they are in a race. The class runner Chatelard is two from two here over this trip and must be respected because if he found his best he’d beat these. Last start in better grade he was hot and bothered in the parade ring and never got into the race being at the tail most of the way. Magical Stance is ready to fire following two runs this preparation while Fantastic Man only needs to repeat his last win here to be amounts the major spoils.
