Bridal Waltz turned the tables on heavily backed favourite She’s An Artist with a tough win in the Listed Creswick Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.
Sent out at $13, the filly held off the $1.30 betting elect by ¾ of a length, with Duchess Zou ($13) another 1-1/2 lengths away in third.
Trainer Peter Moody, who prepares the filly with Katherine Coleman, said they quietly fancied their chances.
“She was ready to peak today… we were in the wrong part of the track last time,” Moody said.
“We just had to hope the favourite maybe wasn’t as good as the hype.”
Bridal Waltz, a sister to stakes performer She Dances, will now head for a short break before targeting spring features.
“She just added very much to her value… now she’s a stakes winner which is so very important,” Moody said.
In a personal twist, jockey Ben Melham got the better of wife Jamie in the final stages.
“A fair chance of sleeping in the spare room,” Melham joked.
