Brown eyes first Group 1 of the season aboard Jimmysstar in Orr Stakes

Ethan Brown has enjoyed a lucrative spring, but one prize is still missing — a Group 1 victory — and he hopes to change that aboard Jimmysstar in Saturday’s $1 million CF Orr Stakes.

The Everest placegetter and recent Russell Balding Stakes winner returns to Victoria for the first time this season, having been the main reason Brown has spent most weekends riding in Sydney.

“It’s been a good spring… you just go where the good horses are and the opportunity is,” Brown said.

Big-race placings have been the story of his campaign — third in The Everest, third in the Melbourne Cup, and second in the Golden Eagle.

Jimmysstar has delivered more than $3.9 million of Brown’s season earnings and continues to establish himself as a top-line weight-for-age performer.

“He’s cemented himself as a proper weight-for-age horse… he’s certainly done that,” Brown said.

After partnering the six-year-old in trackwork this week, Brown issued a warning to rivals, including Angel Capital.

“I jumped on him Monday… he’s drawn a nice gate (three) and there’s no reason why he’s not going to show up again,” he said.

Brown rides eight runners at Caulfield, including Kaleo in the Sandown Guineas and Rohesia in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes.
