Back to the lakeside circuit for this Wednesday but the rail out 9m, last raced here rail 6m June 7 when rated soft 5 and was played true re tempo with leaders away from fence and run-on middle to wide horses all getting their chance. Rated a Soft 6 race morning after just a little Tuesday rain but not expecting it to race any worse than that.

Race 1: 1-2-3-4
1 SMART COUPE comes up short favourite here off the back off impressive Wangaratta debut and no real “look at me” dangers. 2 ELLE STREET was a green double figure Wangaratta Maiden winner on debut then ok in the city when over-raced. Experience and better manners should help. 3 KARDASHING coming back from 1400m sets up better than last start. Significant jockey improvement on 4 NO REWARD. Debutante’s 5 EVIE’S PEARL showed speed in jumpout, 7 TAKE CHARGE MAMA appeared in public in Jan and is safe in betting.

Race 2: 6-10-5-7
Could not have been more impressed with the Wodonga debut of 6 MISTY GIRL and the times stacked up on the day. Sat mid-field, wide kept running and then kept running. Believe your eyes. Scratched Saturday at Caulfield for this easier option too. 10 MISS SISKA looks so well placed here off two Flemington runs of merit. Not much between 3 WHYOUASK and 5 GOOD OH from their first-up runs. 7 QUEEN ANNABEL did all that was required to win on debut. Suggested: Stay with 6 MISTY GIRL

Race 3: 4-8-7-2
Skinny race. Looks like 4 ZAGAYA to give jumps legend Steve Pateman a city winner as a trainer. 1400m mid-week off solid Flemington 1600m Saturday is ideal for this. 8 SOHOOL gets the good run here now out to 1400m. 7 PAKAYA PRINCE favoured if track races to rating. 2 DANE THUNDER was 4 weeks between runs last time and caught wide. Gets better run here.

Race 4: 4-2-3-6
Not often you are excited about one with form x09 but that is the case with 4 LITTLE INDIAN who was able to get within 2.5lens of Ability at Flemington last time and didn’t have much luck. Can do things wrong hence gear changes again but reckon finds right race to get it right. 2 DIVINE CHILLS is seven weeks since running into Mamzelle Tess and that form has stood up. 3 STRATUM MAGIC gets the blinkers and a track with more give than last time which also suits. 6 BRAEMAR resuming has shown enough ability to be competitive in this.

Race 5: 1-3-4-11
Not much would surprise here in evenly graded low BM (64) stayer’s race but saying that 1 KAWABATA has better credentials than most of these. Liked its 1600m run off a break after Adelaide Cup campaign. Slight doubt ground but you get the odds for the gamble with it. 3 BLACKMARKER is a winner at this trip (Gosford) and fit now for this after two runs in. 4 OUTBACK RAIN gets a forgive off the wet track ‘failure’ in Sydney. These races are almost bread and butter for Waller and 11 BRASSY BELLE, though not a winner, can be competitive here.

Race 6: 5-6-8-2
Very tough. Staying with 5 ST SWITHUNS, been running well this grade without winning, and best on tracks Soft 5 and better so hoping no worse than the morning rating (6). That doesn’t seem to be the case for 8 FOUR SISTERS whose form card suggests wants it towards the heavy scale. 6 TRINITY HILL gets blinkers replacing winkers, was pretty good in city race Flemington (Provincial Plate – was $17-$13). 2 SENSATION ALLY was ok against the pattern in a busy MV BM 84 last time. Better graded here with claim.
SUGGESTED: stay alive in the quaddie.
Race 7: 2-6-8-3
Well found in betting already has been 6 TANGO ROCK and a winning chance for sure off two narrow wins both starts this campaign but if 2 KALASHANI LAD gets any luck from alley will be strong at end of the 1200m here as it was at 1000m last time. 8 MURPHY’S REWARD is holding form on all conditions of track and surface. 3 FLORAL FEVER never runs badly and drawn to advantageous run again. But other chances conceded 5/9/10/12/15

Race 8: 11-5-10-1
Again a wide race but happy to go with 11 AWAKE IN GRINZING not at 1600m 3rd run in after good return 1200m and straight to 1500m and good again. Otherwise 5 SENOR ELF and 10 ALL DAY EVERYDAY (has run since) come through a heavy track Mornington meeting and positive Oliver stays with the former. 1 KING WAY hasn’t won in Australia but respectful of its ability.
Suggested: 11 AWAKE IN GRINZING $6.50 bet now as the “safe option” in tough tough race.
