Charlton confident Randwick move suits Linebacker in Golden Eagle

The decision to shift the $10 million Golden Eagle from Rosehill to Randwick hasn’t pleased everyone, but trainer Tom Charlton believes it plays perfectly into his hands.

Charlton, who trains in partnership with John O’Shea, will saddle up Linebacker — a horse whose best form has come at Randwick.

The Super Seth gelding won the $1 million Silver Eagle (1300m) at the track earlier this month, adding to his Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) triumph in March.

“His best form is at Randwick… we’re very happy about that and now we just need a few things to go our way,” Charlton said.

Drawn in gate five, Linebacker will again be ridden by Zac Lloyd, while unbeaten mare Autumn Glow and Japanese raider Panja Tower loom as key rivals in Saturday’s 17-horse feature.
