Ciaron Maher is looking to add the Adelaide Cup to his list of feature race wins, with Promises Kept and Goldenstatewarrior set to race in the Group 2 3200-metre feature on Monday.
Jockeys Michael Dee and Blake Shinn will partner the stable’s two runners. Both riders enjoyed success in New Zealand over the weekend, with Shinn winning the NZ$3.5 million The Kiwi and Dee claiming the Group 1 New Zealand Derby.
Dee will ride Goldenstatewarrior, who finished fourth in the Lord Reims Stakes in February. The horse will race with added headgear and a more forward ride.
Shinn will partner Promises Kept, who has had a strong Tasmanian Summer Carnival campaign. Maher’s assistant, Jack Turnbull, revealed the horse will wear a norton bit and blinkers for the first time in preparation for the two-mile race.
Taramansour, trained by Phillip Stokes, is the current favourite for the Adelaide Cup at $4, according to betting sites.
