Trainer James Cummings is hopeful that a small field and a favourable draw will help Thames return to winning form in Saturday’s No Fuss Event Hire Handicap (1200m) at Mornington.
The Godolphin filly has shown solid performances in her three runs this campaign but has faced tougher competition. Despite this, Cummings remains confident ahead of the race.
Thames won consecutive races last year at Cranbourne and Geelong, with Daniel Stackhouse aboard for one of those victories. Stackhouse will also ride on Saturday, after guiding the filly to second place behind the unbeaten Soft Love at Caulfield on April 5.
In her last start on March 19, Thames chased home Zloties at Sandown, with that mare stepping up in grade to win at Bendigo last week.
Cummings is optimistic about Thames’ chances, stating, “She’s got a good finish to her and Stacky can take advantage of the good draw without having the filly out of her comfort zone.”
Thames is the $4.80 second favourite behind Vestas, who leads the market at $3.20.
