Dabernig trio set for Bel Esprit Stakes challenge at Caulfield

Tom Dabernig will launch a three-pronged attack on Saturday’s Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield with mares Cleo Cat, Romantic Choice and Fickle lining up at varying points in their campaigns.

Cleo Cat leads the charge after an impressive win in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

“She’s been pretty straightforward since Adelaide,” Dabernig said. “She hasn’t missed a beat.”

Romantic Choice, meanwhile, is chasing form after two unplaced runs but has shown promise in the past.

“She didn’t have a lot of luck at Echuca and the track went against her at Warrnambool,” Dabernig explained. “She can bounce back.”

Fickle returns from a spell, with Dabernig hopeful she’s put past issues behind her.

“She’s been nice and sound since we’ve had her… I feel [Caulfield or Moonee Valley] are better shaped for her,” he said.

Future targets include the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) and Bletchingly Stakes (1200m).
