In just over a year, Dominic Sutton has quickly made a name for himself in racing, with Feroce giving him his first winner, metropolitan victory, and Group 1 triumph in the Australian Guineas.

Now, Sutton hopes Detroit City can provide him with his first win at Moonee Valley in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) on Saturday. Detroit City, who finished fourth in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) last spring, has been re-acquainted with The Valley circuit ahead of the race.

“This race is to see whether he will get out over these extended trips,” Sutton said.

After Saturday, Sutton is hopeful Detroit City will head to Sydney for the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) on April 5. Sutton brushed off Detroit City’s poor performance in the Australian Guineas, calling it a “non-event.”

“We thought he could have a nice run at headquarters and hopefully that has him cherry-ripe for Saturday,” Sutton said.
