Victory in Friday’s Magic Millions National 2YO Classic would mark Shaun Dwyer’s first win in a million-dollar race.
While the Sunshine Coast trainer boasts Group 1 success, including a 2003 Magic Millions win with Regimental Gal, that came before the purse hit seven figures.
Dwyer’s past stars include Miss Leonidas and Ville Verde, but he’s excited to be back on the big stage with $25,000 filly Dragonne Rouge.
“I don’t think I’ve had too many runners in million-dollar races,” Dwyer said.
He credits a friendship with Andrew Williamson for landing the ride, after Williamson passed on training duties due to stepping away from the sport.
Dragonne Rouge is the sister of French Blaze, a colt who showed talent but died before racing.
Their dam, Mondeuse, descends from Group 1 winner Star Shiraz, who also produced top mare Retsina.
Dragonne Rouge is unbeaten in three starts, including a Listed win at Eagle Farm.
She jumps from barrier six under Andrew Mallyon, facing 12 rivals including Prince Tycoon, Amosu and All Pink.
