The $2 million Inglis Millennium meeting scheduled for Warwick Farm has been postponed because of heavy rain with more forecast.

Racing NSW stewards conducted an inspection of the surface on Saturday and found two sections near the 1200 metres and 1400 metres unsuitable for racing.

Two of the feature races – the $2 million Inglis Millennium featuring Golden Slipper favourite Cellsabeel and the $1 million Inglis Sprint- have been added to Wednesday’s Warwick Farm card.

Racing officials have indicated they will also look to find a new timeslot for the Group Three Eskimo Prince Stakes and Listed Lonhro Plate, although a decision on the fate of those races is not expected until Monday.

Chief steward Marc Van Gestel said concerns over two sections of the surface and a forecast for further significant rain on Saturday left them with little option but to call the meeting off.

“Unfortunately, we have walked the track and while the majority of the track is actually in very good condition considering the rainfall we’ve had, we’re not able to proceed today on the basis that a section of the track near the 1200 metres and also the 1400 metres is not quite right,” Van Gestel told Sky Racing.

“The forecast is not great for later on today so in those circumstances we have made the decision to postpone today’s meeting and we’ll obviously look to reschedule some of those races that were on today.”

Warwick Farm was in the heavy range on Friday and received a further 13mm of rain overnight and a total of almost 120mm in the past six days.
