Pakenham trainer Peter Gelagotis could have stayed close to home this weekend, but instead he’s packing the truck for a trip to Adelaide with two runners he hopes can turn their form around.
Typhoon Harmony and Rubology line up in separate 1500m events at Gawler on Saturday, and Gelagotis is expecting improvement from both.
Typhoon Harmony brings two unflattering results, but Gelagotis says they don’t reflect how well the nine-year-old is going.
“I think both runs have been outstanding with no luck,” Gelagotis said.
“He’s been building fitness… I don’t think he could be placed better.”
The veteran galloper has trialled strongly and Gelagotis believes he is racing as well as ever.
Dry weather is key, with the trainer scratching him from Ballarat last week due to a wide draw and unsuitable conditions — despite Typhoon Harmony having won on Ballarat Cup Day four years earlier.
Rubology is also expected to lift despite recent finishes showing only sevens.
Gelagotis says the gelding’s sectionals paint a far more positive picture.
“He’s run top three for his last 600 metres… but he gets too far back,” he said.
Gelagotis will give him one more try at the trip before considering stepping him up in distance.
