The last key element has fallen into place for Getta Good Feeling in her pursuit of a first Group 1 success.
The filly prepared by Danny O’Brien has drawn gate five for Saturday’s Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville.
A full field of 16 runners along with four emergencies has taken up slots for one of the pair of Group 1 contests on the Adelaide program this Saturday.
Should none of the emergencies secure a spot, Getta Good Feeling will shift to barrier three from where Billy Egan will take the mount, having partnered the filly successfully in her two outings this preparation at Flemington and Caulfield.
O’Brien chose to skip an entry in the Anniversary Vase (1600m) at Caulfield on April 11, selecting a jump-out at Geelong last Wednesday instead.
“She trialled really well,” O’Brien said.
“She has come back very well this prep. Both starts she has won, and this was always her target for the autumn.
“We specifically didn’t get ready for Sydney because we wanted to have a crack at this, at 2000 metres, and everything’s gone to plan.”
O’Brien mentioned that although he pondered entering Getta Good Feeling in the Caulfield event, bypassing it might allow for an extra appearance from the filly further down the line this campaign.
A journey north to Brisbane targeting the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm on June 6 is still on the table.
“She’s fit and well, and I’m sort of half minded that if she won the Oaks, in Adelaide, that we’d take her up to Brisbane, for the Oaks up there,” O’Brien said.
“I thought I’d rather have another run up my sleeve for later, rather than get another one into her now.
“She won the Wakeful (Stakes 2000m) and run third in the 1000 Guineas (in the spring), so four of our last five have been very, very good runs, and she’s a very classy filly.
“She got 2200 (metres) in the VRC Oaks (over 2500m) and the Queensland Oaks is 2200 and that is why we thought this as well.
“Plus, it gave us a bit more time to give her a proper break after the spring when we decided that we wouldn’t try and get to Sydney.”
