Trainer Robbie Griffiths is optimistic Legacy Bound can reverse the Danehill Stakes result when he lines up in Saturday’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.
The colt finished fourth in the Danehill Stakes (1100m) behind McGaw, My Gladiola and Tentyris, who all return for the rematch.
Griffiths said his runner was disadvantaged racing closest to the inside rail that day.
“In my opinion, they finished in order with how the track was playing that day, from widest first to us fourth, on the slower side,” he said. “Derby Day usually plays very fair… if that is the case, I would like to think we’re well-and-truly in the mix.”
Griffiths believes the step up to 1200m will suit Legacy Bound, who was unbeaten before the Danehill.
The only concern is rain. “Maybe from barrier four in a straight line, that would do me fine, but the wet is negative for us,” he joked.
