Here’s To Shock has secured Lindsay Park trainers Ben, Will, and J D Hayes their first international Group 1 victory in New Zealand.

The eight-year-old gelding targeted the Group 1 BCD Group Sprint (1400m) at Te Rapa on Saturday, succeeding on the ambitious trip.

“We were thinking after the Supernova of where we would take him,” Ben Hayes said.

“After discussing with Rob Slade, we decided to head to New Zealand. He’s a good traveller, in form, and has good residual fitness.”

Hayes added that the BCD Group Sprint seemed like a perfect opportunity for a Group 1 win.

Under Nash Rawiller, Here’s To Shock quickly found his stride and was traveling near the front.

The gelding took the lead after straightening and surged ahead for a commanding win, making the Hayes brothers’ first international Group 1 victory a reality.

“It’s a huge thrill,” Hayes said.

“He’s been a superstar for our stable. This is a massive result for us.”

Rawiller’s strong connection with the horse helped ensure a flawless run, despite the gelding being a bit keen early.
