Highly Regarded aims for staying glory at Flemington

Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr are optimistic that Highly Regarded will find his ideal trip when he steps up to the 2800m distance in the Listed VRC St Leger at Flemington this Friday.

The three-year-old is still seeking his first win after three starts, with his best result being a fourth-place finish in a 2050m maiden at Mornington earlier this month.

Price believes the longer distance will suit Highly Regarded, who he describes as an immature staying type. “He’s getting there slowly and surely,” Price said, adding that the race offers a good opportunity despite the competition.

The Group 1 South Australian Derby at Morphettville on May 3 is also on the radar, depending on Highly Regarded’s performance.

Meanwhile, Price is considering the South Australian Derby for Global Eclipse, who earned his maiden win at Cranbourne on April 18. Price said the horse, a strong staying type, could be a contender for the race, following his recent victory.
