In Flight heads south in search of Group 3 glory

In-form mare In Flight will head to Melbourne for Saturday’s Group 3 John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield, aiming to claim her first win at Group level.

Trained by Joseph Pride, the four-year-old has impressed with back-to-back listed wins at Doomben and Randwick.

“I will have In Flight in Melbourne so I’m going to go down there,” Pride confirmed.

Star jockey Craig Williams has been booked to ride the mare.

“Craig Williams will ride her,” Pride said.

“He had about twenty minutes warning and he came back to me and now knows more about her than I do.

“He is a freak. I love Craig.”

It will be Pride’s second Melbourne trip in three weeks, having recently overseen The Black Cloud’s narrow defeat at Caulfield.

Though not a frequent visitor south, Pride is upbeat about In Flight’s chances.

“She has come back super. She couldn’t be better. I trialled her during the week and she is going great,” he said.

In Flight is currently the $2.80 favourite.
