Trainer Robbie Griffiths is keen to see how much improvement Invincible Son has made when the colt returns to Caulfield on Saturday.
Invincible Son heads to the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) second-up after finishing third on debut at Caulfield Heath.
That run came behind Unit Five, who has since won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
Griffiths said the colt still has plenty of upside as he builds towards the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 21.
A Cranbourne jump-out on Monday gave the trainer confidence Invincible Son is on the right path.
“It is hard to say how much he took from his first race because he hadn’t been back to the barriers until Monday and I thought he trialled really well,” Griffiths said.
“The pleasing thing about Saturday is he’s drawn one.”
Griffiths expects the bigger Caulfield track to suit and said Jamie Melham sticking with the colt was another positive.
“Win, lose or draw, whatever happens, he’s going to improve,” Griffiths said.
“The most important thing is to see where his benchmark is at this time of the year.”
