James Cummings has announced he will relocate to Hong Kong to continue his training career, following the conclusion of his eight-year tenure with Godolphin at the end of this season.
Godolphin’s decision to shift to a public model from August 1 prompted Cummings to explore new opportunities, ultimately leading to his decision to join the Hong Kong Jockey Club from mid-next year.
“While continuing to train in Australia was my intention, the opportunity in Hong Kong presented a unique and respected environment to challenge myself and grow further as a trainer,” Cummings said.
He has withdrawn applications for both Randwick’s Leilani Lodge and Flemington’s Carbine Lodge, opting instead to pause training next season to allow a smooth transition.
“To the owners… I want to express my sincerest appreciation,” he said.
Cummings, grandson of Bart Cummings, has secured 52 Group 1 wins, including most recently with Broadsiding in the Rosehill Guineas.
He’ll continue with Godolphin until July 31 and saddle Golden Mile and Zebra Finch at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
