RACE 3 NO.1 CHAVISH
CHAVISH looks very hard to toss here against a small bunch of moderate gallopers. He is first up off the back of a nice easy trial three weeks ago and when you consider his two wins in his 16 career starts have come first and second up suggests he races well fresh. On paper there looks a lack a speed so it wouldn’t surprise me if Rory Hutchings grabs it by the throat and takes control.
RACE 4 NO.3 SCHOOLMATES
SCHOOLMATES is on debut here having trialled twice this preparation and done so nicely on two occasions. He looks a nice type that Chris Waller has taken his time with and with the booking of Schofield who is a good barrier jock it wouldn’t surprise me if he settled on-pace. It’s fair to say I think he will be a better horse in time and over further but he may well have enough ability to kick start his career in a winning way.
RACE 7 NO.2 SPEED HERO
SPEED HERO has raced 28 times for four wins with three of them coming at today’s distance of a mile. Two of them have come at this track and although he goes up 6.5kg he drops from a Saturday benchmark 82 at Randwick to a moderate 74 benchmark race at a midweek provincial meeting. Last start he got a mile back and found the 1800m a step too far so the drop back to a mile should suit. If we get a fair tempo and he can wind up I think he can run over these and seems good odds to me with $5.5 freely available.
