Kerrin McEvoy dominated the two-year-old races at Rosehill, winning aboard both Skyhook and Memo, but it’s Skyhook who looks set to be his Golden Slipper ride, with Memo unlikely to back up.
McEvoy made the running aboard Skyhook in the Pago Pago Stakes (1200m), extending his lead on the straight to win by 3-1/4 lengths over Good Hotspur.
In contrast, Memo had a slow start, coming from behind to claim victory in the Magic Night Stakes (1200m), overtaking stablemate Dream Side.
Skyhook is set to race in the Golden Slipper next weekend, pending his recovery, alongside King Of Pop, winner of the Black Opal Stakes.
Trainer Sterling Alexiou praised McEvoy’s ride on Skyhook, noting, “Kerrin made his intentions very clear early. He thought he was riding the best horse and rode him accordingly.”
McEvoy noted Skyhook had an easy win, but his only concern was how the colt would handle the extreme heat leading into next week.
Trainer Peter Snowden confirmed Memo was “unlikely” to race in the Golden Slipper but might be aimed at the Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) in three weeks.
Memo had a strong season but was injured in her last race. Despite the concerns, Snowden was hopeful for her recovery.
