Lachlan Neindorf undeterred by wide draw for Stretan Angel in William Reid Stakes

Lachlan Neindorf is confident despite Stretan Angel’s wide draw at Moonee Valley as he chases his second Group 1 victory.

Neindorf, who claimed the Sangster Stakes at Morphettville last April aboard Climbing Star, will ride Stretan Angel in the William Reid Stakes (1200m) on Saturday.

The South Australian-based rider gave the mare the green light to race after she galloped at The Valley on Tuesday morning.

Stretan Angel has raced on just three tracks in her 15-start career, including nine runs at Flemington, five at Morphettville, and one at Randwick.

Neindorf was impressed with how she handled her first trip to Moonee Valley.

“She relaxed well, changed leads at the right time, and got around that track really well,” he said.

Stretan Angel has been consistent, with second-place finishes in The Goodwood and the Newmarket Handicap, and Neindorf believes she is ready to claim her first Group 1 victory.

“I think drawing wide suits her; we can take our time and come into it when the swoopers are coming,” Neindorf added.

Based in Adelaide, Neindorf heads to Melbourne whenever needed, especially for Group 1 contenders like Stretan Angel.
