Kris Lees will finalise his team for the $1 million The Gong in the next day, but Tavi Time is confirmed to take his place despite drawing barrier 16.
Stablemate Loch Eagle, who came up with gate 18, is also nominated for the Mooloolaba Cup (1600m), and Lees will weigh up both races before deciding his path.
“Awkward gates, but there is a forecast for a bit of rain, so you never know with Kembla,” Lees said.
“It has always been the plan, the Big Dance into this race with Tavi Time. He has come on well, and he didn’t have a great deal of luck in the Big Dance.”
Tavi Time missed a start in The Gong last year and instead ran third in the consolation, but returns this year with Summer Cup and Scone Cup wins on his résumé.
He was only just over three lengths off favourite Gringotts in the Big Dance after striking interference in the straight.
Lees says tempo and a clean run are vital.
“If he can get the right set-up, he is always effective.”
Lord Of Biscay, who narrowly beat Tavi Time in the Big Dance, didn’t make the Gong field and will instead contest the benchmark 88, drawing well in barrier five.
“He has been knocking on the door for a win,” Lees said.
