Star international jockey Christophe Lemaire is set to make his Sydney debut when he partners Japanese galloper Rousham Park in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
Lemaire, who won the 2011 Melbourne Cup with Dunaden, arrived in Sydney on Tuesday ahead of the Group 1 race over 2000m at weight-for-age.
Rousham Park, one of 15 runners, will start from barrier 12, a draw Lemaire believes suits the six-year-old’s racing style.
“I think the 2000 metres is a perfect trip for him and I’m quite happy with that outside draw because he’s got a big stride, he likes to have some space to accelerate,” Lemaire said. “I think from the middle of the pace, coming on the outside, he can show his class.”
UK galloper Dubai Honour, who is targeting his fourth Group 1 win in Australia, will jump from barrier 13. He won the 2023 Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Ranvet Stakes, before adding the Tancred Stakes to his resume on April 1.
Dubai Honour’s stable representative, Issy Paul, said he was in great form following his Tancred Stakes victory.
“He’s in really good form, and he came out of the race fresh,” Paul said.
The Queen Elizabeth favourite, Via Sistina, firmed in betting after drawing barrier one. The six-time Group 1 winner finished second to Pride Of Jenni in last year’s Queen Elizabeth.
Pride Of Jenni will miss the race this year and head to Brisbane for the Group 1 Doomben Cup and Group 2 Q22.
