Adelaide mare Lingani is chasing a slice of history at Caulfield on Saturday in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m).

The four-year-old could deliver Peter and Belinda Blanch their first Melbourne win, and become the first Stakes winner to have broken her maiden on Kangaroo Island.

Trainer Peter Blanch, known for educating young horses on the island, said the experience helped Lingani mature.

“It’s a good experience for them… I’ve done it with a lot of horses that have come back and won city races,” he said.

Lingani bolted in by over six lengths at KI and has since won the Listed Lightning Stakes in Adelaide.

She resumed with a fourth at Morphettville Parks in June and heads to Melbourne in top shape.

“She can’t be any better… her coat has come on, so it’s time to have a look,” Blanch said.

Paul Gatt takes the ride on what will be her second run in 10 months.

“We’ve had a few seconds in Melbourne… fingers crossed,” Blanch added.
