Tough and seasoned Torn steps up to 2000m at Caulfield

Ben Brisbourne’s durable galloper Torn will line up for his 20th career start when he tackles the Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap (2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

The three-year-old has more than double the race experience of any rival, with the next most seasoned horse, Verona Rupes, having just 10 starts.

Torn began his career under Brett Cavanough before transferring to Brisbourne late last year. Since then, he’s raced 11 times and missed the placings only twice.

“He’s unbelievable,” Brisbourne said.

“He’s not an overly big, robust type… but every time he comes out of a run he’s bucking and squealing in a couple of days.”

After a recent Bendigo win over 1500m and back-to-back placings at a mile, Torn now tests himself over 2000m for the first time.

“He’s drawn soft on Saturday… he’ll get his chance,” Brisbourne added.

“He’s got a bit of a liking for some give in the track… so if we can keep him up while the ground is on the soft side, that would be great.”

Joe Bowditch takes the ride.
