Trainer Dan Meagher will showcase Lim’s Saltoro in a 1400m benchmark 100 race at Caulfield on Saturday, opting to keep the horse in Melbourne rather than travel to Adelaide for the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville.
Meagher had also entered his star galloper Lim’s Kosciuszko in the Adelaide race but decided to wait before unveiling him.
“I would have preferred a 1200m contest for Lim’s Saltoro, but he’s done the work to be competitive,” Meagher said.
“He’s had three trials and jump-outs, and I took him away for two of them. I think he got a lot of benefit from that.”
Lim’s Saltoro will face a learning curve on Saturday, but Meagher is confident in the five-year-old’s potential despite uncertainties around his performance level in Australia.
“He’s a very good horse, and I have no doubt he will measure up, but I just don’t know at what level,” Meagher added.
Lim’s Saltoro trialled at Caulfield on April 10 and ran second in a Moe jump-out on April 28.
Meagher will also debut Lim’s Ida, who raced in Singapore and will be seeking a better understanding of his ability in Australia.
Lim’s Bighorn and Arentee will also compete in a benchmark 84 race over 1200m on Saturday.
