Melbourne Cup winner Jamie Melham has extended her incredible carnival with a double on Champions Day at Flemington.
Melham first guided the Peter Snowden-trained Need Some Luck to victory in the Listed Fisher Stakes, before returning to claim the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) aboard Sunset Park for Brad Widdup.
Still coming to terms with her Cup triumph earlier in the week, Melham admitted the attention has been overwhelming.
“It still feels like a big dream,” Melham said. “It’s very surreal. I’ve had a great few days seeing Mum and Dad and all the family.”
Sunset Park ($17) led throughout to defeat She’s A Hustler by 1-1/4 lengths, avenging her unlucky Tesio Stakes run at Moonee Valley.
Widdup said the imported mare, by Sea The Stars, is still improving.
“She was very fit and her pedigree comes into play. She’s really building a strong record,” he said.
Snowden’s Need Some Luck ($7) proved too strong in the Fisher Stakes, defeating De Bergerac and favourite Big Swinger.
