Expensive filly Plaintiff lived up to her pedigree and price tag with a stylish debut victory at Rosehill, hinting at a bright future for connections.
By leading sire Zoustar out of Group 1 winner Prompt Response, Plaintiff fetched $2.2 million at last year’s Australian Easter Yearling Sale — the third highest-priced lot.
The Peter Snowden-trained filly justified favouritism ($2.90) with a 1¼-length win over Jaegars in Wednesday’s 1200m maiden, with Balmoral Castle a further length away.
“I learned a long time ago, don’t worry about the price. Just do your best and hope for the best and hopefully we’ve got a nice one again,” Snowden said.
He described the John Camilleri-owned three-year-old as “a beautiful type” capable of stretching in trip and measuring up to stakes level.
“One hundred per cent. A carnival horse and a miler,” he said.
In the same meeting, Joe Pride’s Casserousse made it two straight wins, leading throughout the Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1200m).
“She has certainly got the ability there,” Pride said. “She’s just a little bit keen and wanting to get on with it.”
