John Moloney is hopeful Hearcomesthestar can defy her outsider status in the Listed Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series Final at Flemington.
With initial nominations light, Moloney seized the opportunity to give his four-year-old mare a shot at black-type success.
The daughter of Zoustar has five wins and five placings from 21 starts and is rated a $16 chance.
Moloney believes she’s better than the market suggests.
“When she ran fourth at Flemington last start in the benchmark 90, they didn’t run that much slower than they did in the straight six handicap,” he said.
“Scaled back on weights and measures… she would have been competitive in that under the weight scale she’ll carry – 54 kilos – on Saturday.”
With proven form on soft tracks, the trainer is confident conditions won’t hinder her chances.
“She’s in good order, so why not?”
Race favourite Marble Nine, trained by Leon and Troy Corstens with Will Larkin, is chasing a third straight win and sits at $3.20.
