Trainer Peter Moody and jockey Luke Nolen reached a major milestone on Wednesday when Cooly claimed the Sportsbet Fast Form Plate (1500m) at Caulfield Heath — marking their 900th win as a partnership.
They have combined for countless feature victories, including their unforgettable run with Black Caviar, and Nolen said the achievement meant a great deal.
“We probably should be at 1000, to be honest,” Nolen said.
“He had a bit of time away, and I’ve ridden part time for about six years with my injuries. Getting the job done says a lot about the people we actually are and I work better in a stable environment.”
Their partnership began by accident when Moody mistakenly called Nolen instead of his brother Shaun for a ride at Sale, a mix-up that blossomed into one of racing’s most enduring combinations.
Nolen will team with the Moody–Coleman yard again on Saturday, including Saban in the Cranbourne Cup and Sought After in The Meteorite.
“It’s a nice milestone… 900 for one bloke is quite remarkable really,” he said.
