Munce team confident Payline can fire in Manikato Stakes

Brisbane trainers Chris and Corey Munce are chasing Group 1 success with Payline in Friday night’s Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

The sprinter ran fifth in the Moir Stakes (1000m) earlier this month, finishing just behind Baraqiel and Alabama Lass, with Skybird, Rothfire and Sir Sway in arrears.

New contenders this time include Magic Time, Lady Shenandoah, Charm Stone and Ameena.

Corey Munce said he was pleased with Payline’s first Melbourne run.

“It was an outstanding effort in a high-pressure race at this track over that distance,” he said.

The gelding has had two looks at Moonee Valley ahead of Friday night’s feature, with connections resisting the temptation to add blinkers.

“Justin Huxtable, who rode him in the Moir, was on him, and he was happy,” Munce said.

“I think if we have some luck in running and his momentum is not stopped, he’ll run well.”
