Enver Jusufovic has set his sights on the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville for New York Lustre, following her impressive win at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
The mare, sent out as the $2.45 favourite under Carleen Hefel, triumphed in the FRS Fire Services Handicap (1000m), winning by three-quarters of a length over Gitalong ($8), with Machinist ($3.90) a nose behind in third.
Despite a slow start, Jusufovic was confident in the mare’s chances once the race unfolded. “From the 600 metres onwards she was the one to beat,” he said.
New York Lustre has now won five straight races, joining stablemate Proved in achieving this feat. Jusufovic is keen to target Black Type for the mare’s owner, Mike Howard, who has a vested interest in breeding and investing in the industry.
Jusufovic plans to race New York Lustre in the Proud Miss Stakes on May 10, confident of her potential for bigger wins. “I don’t know what the ceiling is with this mare yet, but I’m hoping for bigger and better things,” he said.
