Chris Waller believes Nudge can continue on her winning way after breaking a run of outs at Doomben.

Nudge has atoned for a series of minor placings in spectacular fashion at Doomben, motoring down the outside to capture the Group 3 Pam O’Neill Stakes.

The mare had been luckless this campaign, held up for a run when second to Rocha Clock at Randwick two starts ago and having little go her way from a wide gate when filling the same placing behind Brandenburg in The Coast at Gosford.

But the breaks finally went Nudge’s ($7) way in Saturday’s 1600 metre assignment and she showed her class to run down Yamazaki ($8.50) by 1-1/2 lengths with Paradee ($3.90 fav) third.

Trainer Chris Waller was on track at Doomben and said it was great to see the four-year-old break through.

“Each and every one of her starts this prep, you could make a case for her,” Waller said.

“But she is a good, genuine mare and she will win another race in Queensland pretty quick on the strength of that.”

Jockey Kerrin Mcevoy admitted he was concerned when Greysful Glamour appeared to be enjoying a soft lead early but a mid-race move by Hugh Bowman on Yamazaki injected some much-needed pace.

“They did steady right up along the back and I was worried then,” McEvoy said.

“I was a little bit happier when Hughie took off on the horse from back in the field and it just made it a bit more of a test.

“But I must admit, I was still worried at the 400 when I was still a long way off them, but she showed a great turn of foot to get back into the race.”

Having what could be her final start before she is sold at next week’s Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale, Greysful Glamour struggled once she was taken on for the lead but tried hard to the line to finish sixth.
