Trainer Mick Price believes Globe could surprise in Saturday’s $1 million Group 1 The Might And Power at Caulfield, despite facing a class rise.
The seven-year-old gelding, one of just nine entries for the 2000-metre contest, is expected to control the race from the front — a scenario that appeals to Price and co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr.
“That’s the attraction for Globe, that he gets left alone,” Price said.
“He’s not as good as the others, but it doesn’t matter. He’ll bowl along in front, he’ll give plenty of cheek.”
Globe hasn’t been beaten by more than half a length in three runs this prep, including a narrow defeat to Charterhouse at Sandown.
While also entered for the $2 million Group 2 Hill Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill, Price said he’ll only travel if Sydney’s weather turns wet.
The Might And Power headlines Saturday’s Caulfield card alongside the Toorak Handicap and Caulfield Guineas.
