Prize money worry for Stuart Kendrick

The big difference in prize money between Sydney and Brisbane has trainer Stuart Kendrick worried as he prepares Fullazaboot for the Magic Millions Classic.

Fullazaboot is an acceptor in Saturday’s Group Three B J McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben but is in doubt after drawing barrier 11 in a field of 13.

The colt has won a Brisbane race and been second in another which has given him $51,000 prize money.

If he had done the same in Sydney his prize money would be $73,000 and he would safely be in the Magic Millions field.

Instead Fullazaboot is equal 13th in the current ballot order which has left Kendrick with a problem.

Kendrick isn’t keen to give Fullazaboot a “gut buster” from a wide barrier as he considers him a real hope in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 13.

“I can make up my mind as late as Saturday morning. I have the option of trialling him on Tuesday morning” Kendrick said.

“By my count there are two horses above us definitely not running and a third unlikely. But there are plenty of races in Sydney where horse can jump us by winning or running second. It is a gamble either way but we might trial instead of running.”

“One thing I am not worried about a wet track at Doomben. He won there on one and got through the heavy going well.

Kendrick said it was an example of prize money in Queensland needing to be addressed as soon as possible.

“They really only need one win down there and they get $53,000 which is a big help for them not us,” he said.
