Race 8             No.1    THE AVENGER

Race 1

1 – 6 – 3 – 4

I can’t see any reason to not stick with DIO D’ORO who was dominant here first up in similar conditions. He steps to 1200m which I don’t see as an issue at all and according to Portelli she has really come on since the win. Marmaris looks to have trialled very well leading into this assignment while Beidi is sure to appreciate going back up in trip after winning at 1000m on debut then racing last start at the 1000m. King’s Trust won well last start and is in improver while Silent Explorer looks the value runner coming off the seven day back up.

Race 2

4 – 1 – 2 – 8

Easy Eddie added another string to his bow last start by sitting off the pace and storming to victory albeit I think he will likely lead here and looks the one the others will have to run down. I am going to side with LISDOONVARNA who I am hoping roll forward and sits outside Easy Eddie and then prove the strongest at the end of the 1200m. Lisdoonvarna accounted for the highly promising Seaway last start over 1400m but with the five week freshen up the 1200m should be fine. Revenire was good here two weeks ago when coming from the back over 1100m to get close so the extra 100m here looks ideal.

Race 3

1 – 4 – 6 – 5

I think the equation is simple here in that if SOLO MISSION repeats his last start narrow defeat by Hallelujah Boy he will be getting the chocolates. Going into last start the heavy track was a huge concern but he powered through it to run a narrow second with over five lengths back to third. Plymouth Road was narrowly beaten by Follow Suit last start but meets him better at the weights and gets barrier one while Only Tiger is still improving and has learnt to tough out a couple wins. Mornington if allowed to lead without getting pestered he may prove hard to run down.

Race 4

4 – 8 – 2 – 5

I have nothing between my top four picks here but from barrier one I am going to side with TERRITORIAL who comes here off a three month break but has trialled nicely a week ago in preparation. Nicconita has returned this campaign and gone bang winning both starts in fine fashion showing a good turn of speed. From the soft draw he should get a nice run and be in the spoils somewhere. Go The Gantry has run very well at his past two runs here in the TAB Highway races over 1000m and 1100m and now steps to his best journey of 1200m. Tim’s Principal will have the blinkers added back to his gear and really he only needs to repeat any of latest three runs since returning from over 400 days off and he is a major player.

Race 5

4 – 3 – 6 – 2

With Chris Waller withdrawing both Noire and then Seaway it leaves SPECIAL MISSILE as the clearly the one to beat. Special Missile has been racing in great heart but just struggling to get the win on the board having been beaten less than a length at his last three runs added together. He should dominant and with the step back up in distance he will hard to beat. His biggest threat to my eye looks to be Dark Eyes whose condition gave out first up last Saturday when lumping 62kg and he is a winner twice second up. They look a standout quinella to me with Karavali next best who returns from Queensland after being outclassed in the group 2 P.J O’Shea Stakes behind Egg Tart.

Race 6

6 – 4 – 7 – 3

SAVVAN looks in for a good campaign judging by her two solid runs this time in. First up she took no part getting a mile back with the race being dominated by the leader Savatiano then the other day she was probably just forced to go a tad early when beaten by Noire who has gone to Brisbane for a group one. If there is a drawback she has run well previously first and second up before failing third up. Star Reflection comes through the same race behind Noire running well after being caught wide yet she never stopped trying her heart out. Alassio has been impressive winning at Wyong and on the Kensington track making it three runs for three wins so hard to knock her. Medaille comes through the Volpe race at Rosehill where she finished alongside I Am Serious who then came out and smashed a field here two weeks ago while Princess Posh beat Magic Alibi at Rosehill who won a black type race in Brisbane at her next start. This is about watching the betting and looking for a play.

Race 7

4 – 1 – 2 – 6

Jungle Edge won the June Stakes while Shiraz ran second and I THOUGHT SO finished four lengths back in third. They look the three hardest to beat again here. Jungle Edge will carry the same weight but go from regular rider Kevin Forrester to three kilo claiming apprentice Georgina Cartwright who rides ok. Shiraz goes up 2.5kg after being beaten a length and a quarter by Jungle Edge. I Thought So goes up 1.5kg gets a better barrier and Glyn Schofield takes over from Andrew Adkins. You make what you will but most of that points to Jungle Edge being hard to run down and I am sure he will. That said I think if Glyn Schofield can get I Thought So out and more prominent from the good barrier and he can stalk Jungle Edge he can run him down. Yes I am a sucker for him but this is his big chance. Faraway Town and Crafty Cop are the others who are capable of playing a role.

Race 8

1 – 5 – 3 – 11

I am a little bit keen here on THE AVENGER who ran well last Saturday but just didn’t ping even though he was beaten less than two lengths. I think he looks in terrific order this preparation and from gate one and two kilos off for apprentice Sam Weatherley he can get the job done this week. No disrespect to High Mist who is second pick in the market and was very good winning last start but with him so well fancied in the betting is what has made me keener on The Avenger. Impavido had a nice fitness run first up at Wyong and now gets the blinkers so I’m sure he will improve sharply. Travancore and Hypnotist look the others who could play a leading role.

Race 9

1 – 2 – 10 – 11

First up off a 228 day spell on a heavy track from the outside barrier would normally mean you steer well clear but I reckon BANDIPUR looks the class runner and is sure to be hard to hold out here. The colt has been racing in Melbourne but I was taken with his appearance at the Randwick trials recently and although the list of things against him is as long as my arm I hoping class prevails. She Knows is flying while carrying big weights so the drop in weight here and coming back to 1000m is sure to have her in the finish somewhere. Don’t Tease Me has brilliant speed and will be charging across and running along and will give a big sight while Rebel Miss will be looking to stalk the speed and use her turn of speed.
