Rebel Rama set to fire in the Midway

Rebel Rama gets her chance to build on an already strong wet track record when lining up as favourite in the Midway Handicap at Rosehill on Saturday.

With all three career wins coming on rain affected surfaces, Warwick Farm trainer Marc Conners is confident Rebel Rama can return to the winner’s circle at a wet Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Having stormed home to win first-up on her heavy home track followed by two unplaced finishes on firmer footing, the daughter of Dissident looks primed to run a big race on what is sure to be a sopping Rosehill surface.

Although missing the frame in her last two, the four-year-old has been strong through the line and looks suited by the rise to 2000m.

Having won at the journey last preparation before heading north and holding her own midfield in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks, Conners is sure the mare is set to fire in the 2000m Midway.

“She’s going great,” Conners said.

“The race just got away from her last start and she just couldn’t get into it, so going back out to the 2000m in the wet should suit her well.

“She’ll get back and be in the second half of the field from her draw (11), depending on the size of the fields she might be able to settle closer.

“With Tommy (Berry) on board he will assess the situation and do what he needs to do.”

While the Midway on Saturday is Conners immediate target, the trainer has his eyes firmly set on a return to Queensland in the new year for the Magic Millions carnival.

Still undecided, the mare will either race over 1800m or 2400m.

The Magic Millions Raceday will take place on January 15, 2022, at Gold Coast Turf Club.
