Trainer Robert Hickmott has confirmed emerging stayer Revelare will head to Flemington in pursuit of a Melbourne Cup berth.
The five-year-old, among 120 entries for the Melbourne Cup, will contest the 2500m The Archer on September 13 before targeting The Bart Cummings (2500m), which offers a ballot exemption.
Revelare is coming off a 2000m win at Caulfield, and Hickmott believes Flemington is the ideal platform.
“He’ll probably gain more fitness out of this run going into the Cummings,” he said.
“He’s two for two here, and as a wet-weather track there’s not many better in Australia than this place.”
Hickmott, who trained Cup winners Green Moon and Almandin, was trackside as the Victoria Racing Club unveiled entries headlined by Via Sistina, Treasurethe Moment, Aeliana, Sir Delius, Vauban and defending champion Knight’s Choice.
International interest is again strong, with nominations from England, France, Ireland, Japan, Germany and the US. American stayer Parchment Party, to be ridden by John Velazquez, has already secured a start.
