Queensland sprinter Payline set for Moir Stakes challenge

A full field of 15 plus an emergency has been declared for Saturday’s Group 1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Queensland star Rothfire headlines the 1000m dash, joined by fellow Sunshine State runners Golden Boom and Payline.

Payline, trained by Chris and Corey Munce, will race in Melbourne for the first time after 21 Queensland starts that include five wins and a placing in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000.

Munce said the gelding has adapted well since arriving in Victoria.
“He had a nice little jump-out last week at Flemington, and we brought him out to Moonee Valley just to have a look at the track and have a bowl around,” he said.

Future targets include the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and the Champions Sprint, depending on how he handles the Valley.

Unbeaten filly Esha is first emergency and will need a scratching to gain a start. The barrier draw will be held Tuesday evening.
