Father-daughter training duo Richard and Chantelle Jolly are looking to expand their Melbourne presence with more boxes at Flemington.
Since March, they’ve had six boxes at the iconic track and hope to grow their operation within the next year. Their first win came on Anzac Day, with Losesomewinmore securing victory at Flemington.
With the Adelaide Carnival now over, Richard sees this as the perfect opportunity to send more horses to Melbourne. This Saturday, the team will have three runners: Aviatress in the Listed Straight Six (1200m), Pudding in the benchmark 84 (1800m), and Star Sirius in the fillies and mares benchmark 78 (1200m).
Jolly explained that their six boxes at Flemington are ones he used years ago when Russell Cameron trained there.
“We only took on a few boxes to start with, not wanting to take on more than we could manage,” he said. “We hope to expand in 12 months.”
Having a base in Melbourne will allow the Jolly team to extend the racing careers of their horses, reducing the need for constant travel.
Aviatress, who won a Stakes race at Caulfield in the spring and the Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in March, is set to bounce back after a rough patch. Jolly is confident that an extra week’s rest has helped her recover and is optimistic about her chances.
