Race 7             No.13  SPECIAL MISSILE

Race 1

3 – 2 – 1 – 6

There look three winning chances with the top one The Fire Trap a winner of two from three in Queensland and with early speed he looks to get the spot on the leaders back which will likely be Master Ash. The Sebring colt was strong in winning at Canterbury and in the weekly video co-trainer Adrian Bott made it the stables best of the day. I am in the corner of LABURNUM though who should stalk the leaders and be strong late. She was beaten over five lengths last start behind the very good Smart Melody even though she ran second. She will have come on since that run and should run well.

Race 2

2 – 7 – 1 – 4

Highway Sixtysix looked big in condition yet was still able to get the job done here a fortnight ago and from a soft draw she will be a major player again. Roman Typhoon finished fourth to Highway Sixtysix but meets her a kilo better and Brenton Avdulla replaces Jean Van Overmeire who dropped the persuader last start and if he doesn’t he may have won the race. The horse those two have to get through is REKINDLED FORCE who returns from a nine month break as a gelding and with a tie-back operation. His form was solid and his trials have been nice and if he is ready to rock’n’roll he will take a power of beating.

Race 3

1 – 9 – 10 – 2

I am pretty sure the toppy ASTERIUS is the best horse in the race and he will need to be as he will be carrying 60kg even after the claim for Sam Weatherly and he will get back off the speed in a race that lacks speed on paper. Deft got the better of Foreign Territory last start when hitting the line powerfully and is a player again here while The Macallan is the big query having his first start on Australian soil. His barrier trial was nice and if he looks ready he may be the testing material. Jolly Honour is dropping back in trip and may lack the zip but he is a classy animal so he could easily surprise.

Race 4

6 – 10 – 2 – 4

We finally get to see the Waterhouse/Bott trained ALASSIO who has returned in super order winning two from two this time around. She has filled out and looked a stronger mare ready to take another step forward. She has gate one which is my only real concern as there is good speed and I think she is suited up and rolling but still I think she’s the one to beat. Girl In A Million and plenty of speed and after a good win first up at Tamworth is ready to have a crack in town with a very light weight. In Times Of War returns from a month’s break after winning a moderate race at the Gold Coast but from a good draw and Bowman she could bob up.

Race 5

4 – 11 – 1 – 5

I am split here between a few as I am convinced if Paret is ready to go and is back at his best I’d declare him as a have a huge opinion of the gelding but I just want to wait and have a look at him in the yard and see if any support comes. He is the big watch punters. I have stuck with STAR OF MONSOON who is first up having looked ready in a barrier hit out albeit a month ago. Soft draw and James McDonald to steer he will give you a big sight. Smartedge, Bratislava and then Reach For Heaven are all capable playing a role here with the right runs.

Race 6

9 – 4 – 10 – 3

There seems to always be a different winner in these races each time a bunch of these horses clash so they are tricky races but also value races. I reckon the horse to follow from the race and I am sure will give us a big sight today is RAQEEQ who was good first up and now gets Avdulla and an extra 500m to ply his trade. Mutarakem was awesome last start but can he do it on a better surface while you need to respect Al Galayel from the Ciaron Maher stable having only raced twice on our shores and has looked very smart at both runs. Screamarr comes through the same race as Raqeeq and is sure to run well.

Race 7

13 – 7 – 3 – 9

SPECIAL MISSILE has been so close this campaign with solid runs but still no victories so hopefully today that changes as he will carry only 53kilos and from a soft draw will either lead or camp hard on the hammer of Dreamforce who is sure to have to work from the outside gate. That said he looks a huge threat as he will lead and he is racing in great heart. Shiraz is a credit to his trainer Kim Waugh who has the rising 9yo flying and from a soft draw and a nice cuddle in the run he could easily go bang and blow this ground away. Invinzabeel is always around the mark in these races while it’s hard to leave out the Melbourne visitor Chamois Road from his nice draw.

Race 8

11 – 6 – 13 – 1

DRACHENFELS went to the paddock off two wins the latest a strong effort beating the inform pair of Pipeline and Lanciato and has trialled nicely all three times in preparation for his return. From an ideal gate he should stalk the leaders and looks great value to my eye especially for the each way players. I am terrified of Goodfella who I have always thought is a good one horse when he puts things together resumes here from an awkward gate with Shinn board. Flow is flying and looks a player with his concern being all his four career wins have come at 1400m which is an easier tempo. Albumin has been good to us this time tipping and winning both starts and it looks as though he will again be a major player.

Race 9

15 – 6 – 9 – 13

SPARKY LAD won’t get a better chance to get back into the winners circle here from a perfect gate and with 53.5kg on his back. His last start second here when ridden further back behind Asterius was good enough to win this. Cosmic Engine can bounce back here second up having drawn gate one and on a better racing surface. Impravido is going to need some luck from the wide barrier but if he gets it he could easily blow this field away being pretty fit now third up. Voilier isn’t easy to catch but looks a player here especially with the drier surface.
