Race 9 No.1 Shogun Sun

Race 1

Hard not to put Privlaka on top after his last two runs when third in the listed Eye Liner Stakes followed by a good second here in the Glasshouse Handicap behind Jamaican Rain. With Boris Thorton’s claim he only carries 2kg over the limit. Bowie looks the main threat and query as he arrives here in Australia with solid NZ form especially on wet ground.

2 – 4 – 7 – 6

Race 2

Looks a tricky race here with several chances in the small field but I do think Tan Tat Diamond is one to get past coming here nice and fresh off a five week break. The improving surface is aiding his chances. Super Suave was impressive winning here a fortnight ago and then survived a protest and from a good draw he looms again as a threat. Mana looks the value with the claim for Stephanie Lacy if he was to find any of his Sydney form.

5 – 6 – 2 – 9

Race 3

Irish Constabulary and Tarzan come through the open dash here two weeks ago behind Ringo’s Rockstar and look great winning chances but the one to beat is Tumbler who last start was beaten just over a half length by Spright in the group 3 WJ Healey Stakes with Havasay running third who was able to win the Ramornie Handicap on Wednesday at Grafton. With the claim for Corey Bayliss she gets a nice pull over the main dangers.

4 – 2 – 1 – 3

Race 4

I think we were all impressed with the debut win of Zoustyle when cruising along and finding quickly on straightening to win as he liked at Doomben. It’s a tougher race here but staying at the flying 1000m should mean he will have too much brilliance and be hard to beat. The win of Red Chase had to be seen to be believed at Doomben when coming from what looked an impossible position. He will be motoring home.

5 – 6 – 4 – 10

Race 5

With the short-priced favourite Special Missile electing to stay in Sydney it has opened the race up but it still leaves me with a NSW trained runner. Kris Lees is having a terrific run and I think it can continue here with Our Gravano who was narrowly beaten here two weeks ago on a heavy track. The slightly better surface will help his chances. Bluebrook is flying and was dominant winning here last start while Fit For Purpose is sure to appreciate the drop back in grade and also the better track.

7 – 13 – 4 – 12

Race 6

The shortie Megablast is the class runner and is sure to be hard to toss but he is yet to show he can run out a strong two miles but if he can he will be winning. I have stuck with the proven 3200m horses in Doukhan and Plot Twist who also get a six kilo pull in the weights over Megablast. Plot Twist comes here first up for 5 weeks having not raced since winning the Stayer’s Cup 3200m at Randwick while Doukhan has been around since and now gets the strong Jeff Lloyd who I think and hope can make the difference.

5 – 6 – 1 – 7

Race 7

Jetsonic doesn’t win out of turn but from gate one here he will get a nice run and I am just hoping he doesn’t find the flying 1000m too short having had his last three runs over 1200m. Totally Charmed on the other hand has been freshened up for five weeks and only needs to repeat his only start here over the 1000m where he stalked the leaders and won impressively. The Mechanic is a good tip around town and is first up here off the back of a good trial four weeks ago. If the Kris Lees Raiden gets luck from the draw he can cause an upset.

2 – 12 – 8 – 9

Race 8

Bon Rocket even though a rising 8yo is racing in good heart and only needs to repeat his run here two weeks ago in a BM75 when beaten a half length by Bluebrook to be hard to toss. He drops to a BM70 but does go up 3.5kg but in a race without a lot of depth he is sure to run well. Pressway also drops marginally in grade from his last start second here in a BM75 but the impressive factor was he did race against Shogun Gun who has performed in far tougher grade. The Overdraft is looking to win two on the trot but is dropping back in distance which is never easy while Deer Mountain I think will appreciate the big roomy Sunshine Coast track.

2 – 11 – 15 – 1

Race 9

The confidence boosting win last start for Shogun Sun will hopefully enable him to carry on and win plenty more races. He has a wide gate and a big weight here but his class will take him a long way and I think finish the day on a good note for us. Emsie Is A Star has drawn well and comes here off an eight week freshen up and an impressive barrier troial.
